Career
Palone was bitten by the harness bug at age 15, when trainer Herman Hylkema allowed him to jog a horse owned by the youngster’s father…Going right to the harness world after high school, Palone worked his way up to Hylkema’s second trainer, then moved on to The Meadows…Continued his driving crusade at The Meadows in 2010, finishing atop the western Pennsylvania oval’s standings in all three categories for the 21st consecutive campaign with 644 wins, $7,162,674 in earnings, and a .381 UDR…On the national scene last year, Dave’s total of 674 victories placed him third among all drivers in North America and was his 21st consecutive top-10 finish…Biggest wins in 2010 came with Fashion Feline in the Kentucky Filly Futurity and Fred And Ginger in the Max Hempt Memorial..Although he was the top driver on the continent in victories during the 1990s with 5,862, the 1999 campaign marked the first time that Palone ever won a single-season North American dash title when he piloted 725 winners…He followed up with 739 victories in 2000 and captured his second straight dash title…Also won the dash title in 2004 with 669 winners…Received the Driver of the Year Award from Harness Tracks of America six times (1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009)…Driver of the Year on the Grand Circuit in 2007...Was inducted in the summer of 2010 into the Living Hall of Fame in Goshen.
