Career

Hammer’s stable won a career-high 146 races in 2009, led by Pennsylvania performers Bell On Wheels and Real Espresso, who ranked among North America’s victory leaders…Hammer’s best known star, older trotter Vivid Photo, remained in action and saw his career earnings increase to $3.12 million…The son of S J’s Photo (co-owned and driven by Hammer) was the richest trotter of 2005, a Hambletonian champion and a multiple world record holder…Vivid Photo was a Dan Patch Award winner as the sport’s top 3-year-old trotting male and led to Hammer being voted the winner of the W.R. Haughton Memorial Good Guy Award by the members of the U.S. Harness Writers’ Association…Vivid Photo earned his second Dan Patch Award in 2007 when he was named the sport’s best older trotting male…Was named the 1994 Trainer of the Year by the Grand Circuit…Hammer is known as one of the top percentage driver/trainers year in and year out…He is a six-time North American UDR champion…At age 7, Roger began helping his father, Clay (himself a five-time UDR champion), around the barns…Another top horse for Hammer was the pacing colt Keystone Luther, a Little Brown Jug heat winner in 1994 and lifetime winner of $608,967.
Personal

Roger’s favorite food is steak and lobster…first car was ’53 Chevrolet…likes any movie starring Steven Seagal…favorite TV show is “NCIS”…has an Australian Shepherd named Aussie…has one daughter, Misti, 36…though he is known for his frugality, Roger said he is not “tight with money” when comes to his daughter and grandchildren…was a high school wrestling champion at the 120- and 127-pound weight class.
