Career
Ouellette began working summers with his grandfather, Gedeon Lachance, at the age of 11 and spent many days with his uncle Michel…After he finished school, Luc began working with Michel full time and came to New York in 1982 with Lachance’s stable…Received his “A” driving license in the spring of 1986 and took a three-horse stable to Monticello Raceway…In 1990, he decided concentrating on driving and maintaining a stable was a bit much, so he sold his stock and opted to become a catch-driver…Became the most popular driver at Yonkers and led the Hilltop driving standings in both wins and earnings from 1993-'95...After splitting his time between the Meadowlands and Dover Downs for much of the next decade, the 2004 season saw Luc shift his base of operations to the WEG circuit in Toronto and he made an immediate impact there en route to being named Canada’s Driver of the Year…Among his best horses was the outstanding free-for-all pacer Red Bow Tie (a double Dan Patch Award winner and the 1998 Pacer of the Year) and Worldly Beauty (who captured Dan Patch Awards during both her freshman and sophomore seasons in 2001-‘02)…The 2010 season saw Ouellette as the regular driver for Crys Dream, the Goldsmith Maid and Peaceful Way champion who was named a Dan Patch Award winner as the sport’s top 2-year-old trotting filly…In 1992 he was the recipient of the Rising Star Award from the United States Harness Writers’ Association…Three years later he put his name in the record books on July 22, 1995 at Yonkers when he became the first driver to ever win nine races on a single program... Earned Driver of the Year honors from Harness Tracks of America in 1995 and 1996…Captured the 1999 North American earnings title with a career best total of $10,834,745.

Luc Roger Ouellette is also known as Lightning Luke …favorite food is his mother’s home cooking…first car was a little Datsun 310, back in 1985…first job was a groom…favorite thing to do on a day away from racing is spend the day with his wife and children, Luc and Isabelle…his favorite pets are foals in the spring, along with his parakeets, rabbits, and turkeys Moe and Alice…greatest racing experience was when he campaigned Worldly Beauty with his cousin Patrick Lachance…he is motivated by big races and his children…fans would be surprised to know that he loves to cook…favorite TV show use to be Seinfeld and Boston Legal but now it’s the local news so that he can keep up with local events…greatest honor/moment in his life was when his children Luc and Isabelle were born.
