Career

The McDermott Stable enjoyed a banner season in 2010, setting a career high with $2.27 million…It was the third consecutive year in which McDermott established a career best…McDermott’s standout in 2010 was pacer Hypnotic Blue Chip, who won a division of the U.S. Pacing Championship with a world-record performance on his way to $788,809 in purses…Went out on his own in 1993, and made his mark conditioning top-level claimers such as Only Action, Kiwi Cinder N, Kendal Missile and Danger Of Fire…Broke into the national spotlight in 2001 as the trainer of Classic Distaff champion Yes Its True, who won a dozen races and earned more than $500,000 that year…Took over the training in the fall of 2008 for pacing gelding Blueridge Western, who has won $1.4 million lifetime…Along with owner Francis Azur and drivers Tim Tetrick and Brian Sears, brought Blueridge Western and Noble Falcon to the Orleans County Fair in Vermont in 2009 for a widely publicized exhibition…Azur, who provided $20,000 for purses and promotion of the fair, was named the sport’s Unsung Hero by the U.S. Harness Writers’ Association and the Horseperson of the Year in the USHWA/USTA Railbird Recognition awards.

Got his start as a teenager by writing letters to Meadowlands trainer Jim Doherty, asking for work…Later spent summers learning from Jack Parker Jr. and also worked as an assistant for trainers Nick Sodano and Linda Toscano…favorite food is steak…first car was a Ford LTD…favorite horse was Mac Action…favorite TV show is “24”…insists on watching races alone…loves fishing…greatest racing moment was winning the Classic final with Yes Its True.
