Career

A native of Sydney, Australia, Croghan was born into harness racing, following in the footsteps of his father, trainer Noel...came to the United States in 1976 and raced on the West Coast for 17 years, winning nine driving titles, before settling in New Jersey… has been racing in The Garden State ever since...Ranks among the all-time leaders in training wins and earnings at The Meadowlands…Captured Big M training titles in 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008… Best trainees include BJ’s Whirlwind, who won the Dan Patch and Battle of Lake Erie in 1999, and the multiple stakes winning mare Carolina Sunshine…His pupils earned a career-best $4.7 million in 2008, led by Dan Patch Award winning 3-year-old pacing filly Tug River Princess and Classic Series champion trotting gelding Corleone Kosmos...known as mentor to some of the sport’s top training talents as his former assistants include Brett Pelling, the Meadowlands’ all-time money-winner, and Mark Harder.
Personal favorite food is Honey Nut Cheerios (“of course”)…first car was a Ford Fairlane…favorite show is Desperate Housewives (“Isn’t it everybody’s?”)…he can swim like a fish…favorite novel is Pillars of the Earth…he is motivated by “fast horses and loose women”… started out cleaning stalls…greatest racing moment was winning four stakes in one day on Oct. 3, 2008
